counting down to 2020
I’ve seen several mentions recently about the new decade beginning next year. I hadn’t really registered that. But, here we are, another ten years gone by.
While this year has seen many changes for me, the last decade has seen plenty more.
Ten years ago I lived in a different town, I was happily single and self-employed. I had no idea what lay ahead of me. The future, it turned out, would be a massive evolution.
The past decade saw my Mum become ill and die two years later, the catalyst for my Dad and I to buy a house together. Another two years passed and my Dad died unexpectedly. I met and, a year ago, married my husband, and left a job to branch out on my own.
I suspect the next ten years will see many changes too. We’re planning a move to a completely different part of the country. We can only anticipate the doors that will open and the experiences we will have.
While life can feel like a vague collection of events tagged together, looking back there appears to be method to the madness. I often think that we are in some Adjustment Bureau type of world reading a map that shows our way forward.
This year I’ve been on a quest to rediscover who I am and what I want to do. It’s an ongoing journey. I’ve never been one of those people who knew what they wanted to be when they grew up. I’m exploring a completely different working life to the one I’ve had for the past thirty or so years. I’m writing about what I’m learning on my blog.
So far, it’s been a journey of twists and turns, steps forward and back, moments of pure clarity and weeks of wading through mud.
I’ve realised that the rules of engagement I’ve known before don’t apply here. It’s a whole new world and, while there are others who are on similar journeys, this is my path to follow.
2020 marks the end of a chapter for me, a letting go of my past and striking out on my own. The process of change fascinates me - how it impacts us, how we can fear it, and how it is usually the catalyst for our greatest personal growth. Although we can’t see it when we’re in the midst of changes, change leaves gifts for us in its wake.
I’m ending 2019 as a married woman having celebrated my first First Anniversary, I’m also a step mum and the wife of a blind artisan. I didn’t see any of that coming!
on the blog
I’d like to share just one post with you. It’s a topic I’m still contemplating and there’s more to be said. It’s partly about climate change but mostly about the impact we each have individually, and how profound change begins with us.
I came across this video today - the message is simple. I am, therefore you are. It’s the butterfly effect. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. We never know the impact we have on others, both good and bad. Let’s try to make our interactions good ones.

I’ve been tweaking the website! I always find, as I evolve, the website needs to change too. I hope you like the new colour scheme and the pared down layout.
Until next time …
